Cottelston Advisors in conjunction with PULSE presents:
Unseen Arctic: Images of Iceland and Greenland
by Diane Tuft
Dates: March 4 - 7, 2010
Hours: 12pm - 8pm (VIP reception: March 4, 9am - 12pm)
Location: PULSE New York, 330 West Street @ West Houston, New York, NY
The point of departure for Diane Tuft’s photography is exploring that which is beyond the ends of the visible spectrum. By capturing the effects of infrared and ultraviolet light in nature, Diane's work presents contradictions to the viewer: a natural world that seems familiar, and yet is unavailable to the naked eye. The outcomes, which occur naturally without altering the photograph, encourage closer inspection.
Unseen Arctic Circle: Images of Iceland and Greenland, presented by Cottelston Advisors and on view at PULSE New York from March 4 through 7, 2010, will consist of large scale images that play with ones preconceived notions of scale. The differences between the minute and the monumental become muddled causing a sense of vertigo as one tries to place themselves within the landscape. The results are deep, captivating abstractions lifted from some of the most remote destinations in the world.
Diane Tuft is a mixed media artist focused on photography. Her practice has led her to photograph such diverse locations as New Guinea, Salt Lake and Iceland. In 2006, the Katonah Museum of Art showcased her installation Internal Reflections, a walk-in environment that combined photography, sculpture, light and sound. She also has shown at Ameringer & Yohe Fine Art, Kimball Art Center and Pace Wildenstein Gallery. Tuft’s work may be found in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the International Center of Photography in New York, as well as numerous important private collections.
PULSE Contemporary Art Fair is the leading US art fair dedicated solely to contemporary art. Held annually in New York and Miami, PULSE bridges the gap between main and alternative fairs and provides participating galleries with a platform to present new works to a strong and growing audience of collectors, art professionals, and art lovers.
